Summary
England’s system of government experienced a small evolution rather than an enormous change after the Norman Conquest. The key features of Anglo-Saxon government remained including the king being the head of the government. The names of institutions sometimes changed and the important positions were soon all occupied by Normans. This helped William to keep control of England and have people he trusted in those roles.

Examiner Tips and Tricks
You will not be asked to answer a question on how the Anglo-Saxon government functioned. However, it is essential knowledge as it enables you to explain what the Normans changed - or didn’t - when it came to their government. This would be useful in a ‘write an account’ or an ‘explain the importance of’ question.
