You asked, we listened; Save My Exams are excited to announce the launch of Flashcards, a brand new resource type, most requested by our users. What are Flashcards? How can I use Flashcards to aid my revision? What’s so amazing about the Flashcards made by our experts at Save My Exams? Read on to find out or check out which courses you can find them on here.
Why should I use Flashcards for revision?
There are several steps in the revision process when it comes to preparing for your exams. First, you need to understand the basics of each subject’s content; keywords, dates, quotes and equations. The next step is building on your knowledge and applying it to answer increasingly more difficult questions, gradually adding more complex knowledge and understanding before eventually completing practice exam papers.
The most important step is the first, getting to grips with the basic building blocks of your subject, and using flashcards is a great way to achieve this. A flashcard has information on both sides; usually a keyword or question on one and the corresponding definition or answer on the other. Flashcards are a great resource to practice active recall, a memorisation technique aimed at improving the retrieval of information stored in our brains.
What are the benefits of using Save My Exams Flashcards?
Save My Exams Flashcards are all exam-specific. This means they use the definitions, equations, quotes and terminology specifically required by your exam board to gain maximum marks in your exams.
All our Flashcards are presented by topic and mimic the order of our revision notes so learning is easy to organise. For those of you studying IGCSE or GCSE, Extended or Higher tier content is indicated, so you know exactly what you need to learn. Each flashcard is linked to the corresponding revision note, to help you easily review more detailed information and build on the knowledge from the Flashcard you’ve been looking at.
How to use Save My Exams Flashcards?
You can find your subject-specific Flashcards under the relevant level, subject, and exam board link in the main menu. This will take you to the Flashcard overview page where you can view all the topics covered.
Click on any topic to go directly to those Flashcards. You can also access flashcards directly from our revision note pages and site menu.
You can then work through the Flashcard collection covering that topic. After reading the front of each card, click anywhere on the card to flip to the answer. Click on the right and left arrows to move between cards.
Below the Flashcards, you can click “Help with this card” which will allow you to navigate to the revision note for more detail on that card. You can view Flashcards in full-screen mode and see your progress as you work through all the cards in the collection.
Are there other ways to use Flashcards to aid my revision?
There are many ways to use Flashcards to support your revision.
Flashcards can be used to identify anything you don’t know after testing yourself. If you cannot answer the question or define the keyword, use our revision notes to make your own shorter set of notes, so you can focus on learning what you didn’t know before. Use colour to code the information and add diagrams to show processes where possible.
Work with a friend or parent who can test you using the Flashcards on a laptop or phone. Have them ask the question so you can respond with the correct answer. Record any you don’t know as an audio or revision note. Listen to the audio or read the revision notes aloud to learn the content you were unsure of.
Feel confident with our Flashcard content before moving on to the other stages of revision. Use them alongside our Revision Notes and Topic Questions for best results in your exams. Check out our other articles, like How to Revise Effectively, to learn more about other ways to use our Flashcards and revision resources.
