What is a function in IB maths?

In the context of the IB Maths course, a function is a fundamental concept that describes a relationship between two sets of values.

A function is typically written as f open parentheses x close parentheses. Each element in the domain, x, is associated with exactly one element in the range, y. This relationship is often expressed through an equation, such as y equals f open parentheses x close parentheses, where f is the function, x represents the input value, and f open parentheses x close parentheses represents the output.

Functions are used to model real-world situations and solve problems, allowing students to analyse patterns, make predictions, and gain deeper insights into mathematical concepts.
