What is enterprise?

In GCSE Business, enterprise is the process of identifying and pursuing a business idea that has the potential to make a profit. Enterprise is French in origin and means ‘take an opening’. This helps to understand that enterprise involves pursuing an opportunity.

Enterprise is also a way to describe a business. Enterprises can range from small businesses run by a single person to large corporations with thousands of employees.

Enterprises carefully plan their operations, manage resources such as money, materials, and people, and make decisions to ensure they stay competitive and profitable. They need to comply with relevant laws and regulations to ensure that they are allowed to continue to operate.
