The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is a United Nations programme which provides assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. Table 6.1 describes how UNICEF classifies water supplies.

Improved sources include: piped water, boreholes, protected wells, protected springs and packaged or delivered water.
