Component 1: Section C: Edexcel IGCSE Modern Prose Overview
If you are studying Edexcel International GCSE in English Literature (4ET1/01), Component 1 is a compulsory, examined component.
You will also either take Component 2, another examined component or Component 3, a coursework option (Component 3). All of your exam papers must be taken at the end of your course of study.
In your Component 1 exam, the exam question in Section C requires you to write one 40-mark essay question (from a choice of two) on the prose text you have studied.
You must complete Component 1. There are three sections in this exam paper:
Component 1: Poetry and Modern Prose (4ET1/01)
Externally assessed | 60% of the total International GCSE
Section A | Unseen Poetry |
|
Section B | Anthology Poetry |
|
Section C | Modern Prose |
|
In Section C, you will be expected to show your knowledge and understanding of your chosen prose text and its relationship to the context in which it was written:
You must:
demonstrate a close understanding of your prose text
maintain a critical style
present an informed personal engagement
identify and use relevant examples from your prose text
understand the influence of contextual factors on the interpretation of your text
