Inequality - GCSE Sociology Definition

In the context of GCSE Sociology, "inequality" refers to the uneven distribution of resources, opportunities, and privileges among individuals or groups within a society. This can manifest in various forms, including economic disparity, social class distinctions, educational access, and differences in power or status.

Inequality often results in one group having advantages over another, leading to imbalances in wealth, health, and overall quality of life. Studying inequality helps sociologists understand the underlying factors that contribute to social stratification and the impact it has on individuals and communities.
