Ethnic Minority Groups - GCSE Sociology Definition

Reviewed by: Raj Bonsor

Published

Ethnic minority groups refer to communities within a larger population that have different national, racial, or cultural traditions from the dominant group.

In the context of GCSE Sociology, these groups are often distinguished by their unique languages, religious practices, or distinct cultural identities. They may have different historical experiences and social practices compared to the majority population, and they often face unique challenges related to representation, integration, and potential discrimination within society.

Understanding ethnic minority groups is crucial for exploring issues related to diversity, social inequality, and the impact of multiculturalism in the UK.
