Equality Of Opportunity - GCSE Sociology Definition

Equality of opportunity is a sociological concept that refers to giving all individuals the same fair chance to succeed in life, regardless of their background or personal characteristics such as gender, race, socioeconomic status, or disability.

In the context of education, which students studying GCSE Sociology explore, it means that every student should have access to the same quality of education and resources, enabling them to achieve their potential based on their abilities and efforts rather than being limited by external factors.

This concept underlines the belief that societal structures and institutions should not create barriers that prevent people from having the same starting point to pursue opportunities in areas like education, employment, and living standards.
