Circumference - GCSE Maths Definition

Circumference is the term used to describe the total distance around the edge of a circle. In GCSE Maths, understanding circumference is crucial as it forms the basis for calculating other circle-related properties.

The formula to find the circumference of a circle is:

C equals pi cross times d

or alternatively,

C equals 2 pi cross times r

where:

  • d is the diameter,

  • r is the radius, and

  • pi (pi) is a mathematical constant approximately equal to 3.14159.

Knowing how to calculate the circumference helps students solve problems related to circular shapes and is a fundamental aspect of geometry.
