Area - GCSE Maths Definition

In GCSE Maths, 'area' refers to the amount of space contained within a two-dimensional shape or surface. It is measured in square units, such as square centimetres (cm²) or square metres (m²). To calculate the area, different formulas are used depending on the type of shape: for example, the area of a rectangle is found by multiplying its length by its width, while the area of a triangle is calculated as half the base multiplied by the height. Understanding area is essential for solving problems related to space, design, and geometry.
