When a value is squared, the value is multiplied by itself, the same is true with brackets
Write out the expression again as a set of double brackets

$(2 x + 7) (2 x + 7)$

Expand the brackets using the method you are most comfortable with
Using the FOIL method, start by multiplying together the First terms

$2 x \times 2 x = 4 x^{2}$

Then multiply the Outer terms

$2 x \times 7 = 14 x$

Multiply the Inner terms

$7 \times 2 x = 14 x$

And finally multiply the Last terms

$7 \times 7 = 49$

Put the terms together in a single expression

$4 x^{2} + 14 x + 14 x + 49$

At least 3 correct terms [1]

Simplify by collecting 'like' terms

$4 x^{2} + 28 x + 49$ [1]
