Worked Example of a "Describe" Question

Worked Example

Describe two problems faced by the people of the USSR during the Terror.

[4 marks]

Answer:

One problem faced by the people of the USSR during the Terror was the constant fear of punishment (1). During the Terror, over 20 million people were sent to concentration camps/ gulags these arrests would often take place in the middle of the night and those arrested would often not know the reason for their arrest (1).

A second problem faced by the Russian people of the USSR was the shortage of food (1). Stalin wanted more workers in industries to modernise the USSR in addition Stalin had taken control over farms. Therefore the production of crops decreased and what crops were produced went to trading with other countries rather than to the peasants, who starved (1).
