OCR GCSE Business Paper 2: 7-Mark Question

  • Paper 2 contains one 7-mark evaluate or discuss question

  • This question requires you to demonstrate skills of application, analysis and evaluation

    • Application is awarded for making correct points that relate specifically to the context

    • Analysis is awarded for logical chains of reasoning

      • Chains should begin with an appropriate point and, through a series of steps, arrive at an impact

    • Evaluation requires a supported judgement to be made, within the context of a particular business

  • Two marks are available for application, two for analysis and three for evaluation

  • Examiners assess your answer as a whole, using an assessment grid that looks like this:

  • The following response achieves full marks, as it demonstrates all of the required skills:

OCR GCSE Business Paper 2: 9-Mark Question

  • Paper 2 contains one 9-mark discuss or evaluate question

  • This question is the only synoptic question in the exam papers

    • You will need to draw on content from the whole course when answering the question

  • This question requires you to demonstrate skills of knowledge and understanding, application, analysis and evaluation

    • Knowledge is demonstrated through definitions of key terms

    • Understanding is demonstrated by making correct points

    • Application is awarded for using data to support understanding, analysis and evaluation

      • This may include simple calculations

    • Analysis is awarded for logical chains of reasoning

      • Chains should begin with an appropriate point and, through a series of steps, arrive at an impact

    • Evaluation requires a supported judgement to be made, within the context of a particular business

  • One mark is available for knowledge, one for understanding, two for application, two for analysis and three for evaluation

  • Examiners assess your answer as a whole, using an assessment grid that looks like this:
