Preventing Medical Conditions

  • Disease can often prevented by including certain factors in our lifestyle
    • Good hygiene such as hand washing before eating and after using the toilet
    • Access to clean water is vital for disease prevention as many diseases can be carried in unsanitary water such as cholera
    • An improved diet can help prevent disease and includes lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole foods to support the immune system; a poor diet has been linked to various diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and some cancers
    • Vaccination is an effective form of disease prevention against diseases such as measles and whooping cough
    • Drugs can also be used to prevent disease such as anti-malarial drugs
  • Some diseases cannot be prevented or an individual has not taken the necessary steps to prevent disease. In these cases, diseases must be treated often by taking medicinal drugs such as antibiotics
