Ruth is a Senior Content Creator in the Biology team at Save My Exams and has been part of the SME family since 2021. Throughout her time, Ruth has contributed to the wealth of resources onsite and has particularly enjoyed working on developing complex application-based questions to test the harder elements of examinations.
Ruth is particularly keen to ensure that resources provide an accessible route for all students to improve their understanding of the topics in Biology. With this in mind, Ruth is particularly fond of the use of videos, animations and images to enhance the student learning experience.
Prior to her time at Save My Exams, Ruth worked as a science teacher and tutor for over 10 years. This included working with students from years 7 to 11 across biology, chemistry and physics as well as providing more specialist biology teaching to years 12 and 13.
Ruth has worked with several exam boards as an examiner, at both GCSE and A-level, and loves to use her experience to produce educational materials which make the mark schemes accessible to all students.
In her spare time, Ruth enjoys keeping active and chasing new challenges. Over the last 3 years, this has included several triathlons, aquathlons and trail runs. In the coming year, Ruth will be running her first marathon, she’s hoping to make it to the end!
Ruth graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BSc in Biology. She followed on to complete a PGCE at the University of Warwick and an MA in Innovation in Education at the University of Warwick.
Ruth has taught and tutored across all three science disciplines (Biology, Physics and Chemistry) to GCSE with a specialism in Biology which she taught up to A-level
Ruth has over 10 years of experience as an examiner for several exam boards at GCSE and A-level standard. This experience has helped her to understand the expectations of the exam boards, including the specific requirements across the topics in Biology.
In her local area, Ruth runs a small tutoring business and has provided tailored tuition support to over 30 students.
After writing her dissertation on innovative learning techniques in the classroom, Ruth has enjoyed helping students to establish a deeper understanding in science students through strategies that develop independence.
