Nick joined Save My Exams in February 2023 and is now a Senior Content Creator for the English team. Prior to this, he worked in London schools for eight years holding numerous roles, including Head of Sixth Form English, Senior Tutor, and Higher Education and Aspiration Officer.
Nick’s love for the English language stems from his experience working as a journalist and editor, where, alongside having his own writing published and editing magazines and books, he mentored young writers.
Before making the transition to the classroom, Nick worked for an educational charity, Civitas Schools, which provided booster English classes to KS2 and KS3 children in deprived areas of London. It was this that served as the inspiration to become an educator, and fuelled Nick’s passion for combatting educational inequality.
While a teacher, Nick achieved some of the best English Literature results in the country - his department ranked in the top ten state schools nationally for value added. He has delivered many CPD sessions to staff both on pedagogy inside, and outside, the classroom, and has been interviewed by the Guardian over his implementation of a political literacy curriculum at the same school.
In this school, an inner-London academy, Nick was also responsible for Oxbridge applications, where he facilitated over 80 student offers over a six-year period. As a result, he was part of a London-wide network of educators which championed access and diversity initiatives.
In his spare time, Nick is a devoted father of two young boys, and has a keen interest in politics and current affairs. Having been classically trained in French cuisine, he is also obsessed with food and cooking, and his claim to fame is that his family’s restaurant was once reviewed by renowned food critic Jay Rayner!
Nick studied Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Cambridge, and received his teaching qualification from King’s College London.
Nick has taught English Literature and English Language extensively at KS3, KS4 and KS5, for which he held the post of Key Stage Coordinator and oversaw some of the best A Level results in London.
Nick has also taught Latin at KS3 and Classical Civilisation at A Level, as well as having extensive experience tutoring English Literature and Language, Classics, and Religious Studies at GCSE and A Level.
His particular areas of expertise are metaphysical poetry (which combines his love of theology and literature) and - taking cues from his literary hero George Orwell - he especially loves teaching the fundamentals of writing.
He also has over eight years’ experience working with students on Oxbridge, Medicine and Dentistry applications, and has extensive experience working with pupils and parents on the UCAS process. He has delivered training to hundreds of educators on writing great UCAS references.
