Since joining Save My Exams in early 2020, Lucy has held a variety of roles growing the Maths team and portfolio of content as Maths Subject Lead, followed by Computer Science and is now Head of STEM where her role is to make sure Save My Exams provides the very best course-specific Maths, Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and Computer Science content to empower students to succeed
She works with her amazing team of Subject Leads and Expert Content Creators to create a variety of revision content, from exam-style topic questions to concise revision notes, tutorial videos and practice papers, providing everything a student would need to ace their exams
Prior to working for SME, Lucy was a highly experienced Mathematics leader and teacher since 2009, working across the UK and abroad helping to engage, excite and develop confidence of both students and teachers at all levels
Working as a Head of Department and then Director of Maths, Lucy has advised schools and academy trusts to drive Mathematics improvement across all phases through systematic analysis and evaluation of teaching and learning alongside strategic coaching and whole school observation to raise standards and improve Maths teaching for all
Lucy has mentored teachers across maths, science and PE as well as trainee, NQT and non specialist teachers. She has supported hundreds of teachers and thousands of students from Primary through Secondary, GCSE and A Level, providing targeted support working with underperforming schools and departments to rapidly raise standards and outcomes to improve their Ofsted ratings in Mathematics across all stages
Lucy has written and delivered professional development and training materials for staff at all career stages; including trainee teachers, support staff and non-specialists as well as county and trust wide training for primary and secondary mathematics teachers and school leaders. Her training has covered a wide range of topics from curriculum development and effective exam revision techniques to real world Maths applications and use of manipulatives in the classroom
Lucy has worked for the SQA as part of their numeracy hubs scheme working on curriculum and assessment overhaul and online learning development. She has trained as an OUP Numicon trainer and worked with NCETM Maths hubs
Lucy has publication and editorial experience for teaching and learning resources and policy development for schools, trusts and national initiatives; including developing online platforms for learning and assessment and collaborative networks for resource and curriculum development, sharing and delivery.
Lucy gained a BSc in Mathematics and Education (Joint Honours) at the University of Leeds where she was able to combine her passion for Mathematics with her love of Education and Psychology. Lucy then studied for her PGCE Secondary Mathematics Education with QTS at the University of Nottingham, passing with Distinction
Lucy completed her Masters in Education passing with Merit with a specific focus on Mathematics Education, gender and getting girls into STEM.
Lucy's Master's dissertation focussed on gender and Maths and she has done a lot of work promoting STEM, focusing on creating positive relationships with Maths, particularly for girls and parents, encouraging everyone to feel more confident and comfortable with Maths and highlighting the critical place STEM subjects have in the real world
Lucy is planning to undertake a Doctorate in Education soon!
