About

  • Lára began her tutoring journey when she left secondary school and has always enjoyed helping students tackle the trickiest of topics in Biology. As a visual learner herself, she particularly likes to incorporate engaging images within her work to aid students' understanding of key concepts within Biology.

  • When Lára was younger she thought about being a veterinary surgeon and she still has a massive love for dogs today! Her degree gave her the analytical skills required to dissect scientific papers and she likes to use this skill to ensure she trains her own pooch, Seamus, with science-based techniques.

  • Lára loves to be active; on the weekend she can be found playing Gaelic football with her teammates or going for long swims in one of the outdoor pools in London.

Education

Biological Sciences, BA from University of Oxford

Expertise

Lára finds infectious disease and epidemiology absolutely fascinating; so much so that her dissertation focused on the Phylodynamics of the Chikungunya virus in the Americas. She really enjoys writing content on vaccines and immune responses for students.

Top revision quote for students

“The mark scheme is your friend”

  • For Biology in particular keywords are critical for gaining marks. You may have had the feedback “too vague” or “not specific enough” written all over your mock papers. This is because you aren’t hitting those all-important keywords.

  • To get more familiar with the keywords required for different questions you should go through the mark schemes of recent past papers and highlight the keywords in the mark schemes. Some exam boards will even underline these for you!
