About

Education and work

  • Jen studied a BA (Hons) in English Literature at the University of Chester, followed by an MA in 19th Century Literature and Culture. She taught English Literature at university for nine years as a visiting lecturer and doctoral researcher, and gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education in 2014. She now works as a freelance writer, editor and tutor. 

    While teaching English Literature at university, Jen also specialised in study skills development, with a focus on essay and examination writing.

  • She has extensive experience in lecturing, small group teaching and examining, as well as delivering conference papers on her specialist subject, 19th century literature. 

    Jen’s passion for education led her to design and deliver study skills development sessions for students. She continues to promote effective study skills through her tutoring practice and her work for Save My Exams.

Published articles

  • Jen has authored and co-authored many conference papers; her work has been published in The George Eliot Review (2015, 2020) and The Coleridge Bulletin (2015). She has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2015.
