About

  • Barbara has dedicated over three decades to educating students in Texas, teaching and preparing students in AP US History, AP Human Geography, and American History for grades 6–11.

  • Her passion for teaching is matched by her commitment to enhancing educational practices. Barbara has not only developed and delivered training for teachers on meeting diverse student needs, but she has also been instrumental in supporting gifted students and those with unique learning styles. 

  • In addition to her work in the classroom, Barbara has made significant contributions to educational resources through her work as a content author and textbook reviewer. She ensures textbooks align with specific learning goals and objectives, designs lessons, teacher plans and assessment questions that engage students and foster deep understanding.

  • Barbara has taken on many volunteer roles alongside teaching which reflect her love for history and education. She has served on the state of Texas textbook adoption committee, acted as a commissioner on the City of Round Rock History Preservation Commission, and contributed as a curriculum writer for the Joseph and Susanna Dickinson-Hannig Museum in Austin, Texas.

  • When she’s not immersed in education, Barbara enjoys reading historical fiction and quilting blankets, which she donates to American veterans.

Published work

  • Barbara has been pivotal in designing and creating various curriculums including American History and Black American history. Her work ensures alignment with Common Core and state standards across multiple grade levels and abilities.

  • Additionally, she has developed an American History and Civics curricula for American high school students living abroad, complete with formative and summative assessments.

Education

  • Barbara earned her Bachelor of Liberal Studies from St Edwards University in Austin, Texas, and went on to complete a Master of Education in Curriculum Development and Secondary Education with a Minor in History from Southwest Texas State University. 

  • Barbara holds Texas teaching certificates in History grades 6–12 as well as Gifted/Talented Education grades 6–12.

Expertise

  • Proficiency in teaching and writing educational materials for AP US History and American History.

  • Barbara has been reviewing and assessing textbooks for more than 20 years.
