About

  • Alistair has been working at Save My Exams for three and a half years, first as a Biology Content Creator and now as the lead Environmental Studies Content Creator

  • As the company’s environmental science specialist, Alistair focuses on delivering high quality revision materials, including revision notes, diagrams and topic questions, for a range of courses, including IB Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) and CIE Environmental Management, in order to ensure students can ace their exams

  • Alistair is an educator with extensive experience in science and environmental studies, with the IB Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) course being a key focus of his teaching career

  • With a degree in Biological Sciences from Oxford University and an MSc in Wildlife Biology and Conservation, Alistair has spent many years learning about the complex interplay between human societies and environmental systems

  • Through his roles as an IB ESS teacher at St. Edward’s School in Oxford, and as a private ESS tutor, Alistair has seen how much students can gain from studying this fascinating interdisciplinary subject

  • During his MSc, Alistair completed a dissertation on bird diversity in urban green spaces in the city of Munich, surveying over 20 urban cemeteries in the process - alongside parks, forests and allotments, these urban cemeteries provide vital habitats for birds living in heavily urbanised areas

  • Alistair has also worked as a seasonal field ecologist since 2020, conducting bat surveys for Aspect Ecology in Banbury, and now Ecoscpope Ltd. and TACP (UK) Ltd. in North Wales

  • Alistair also worked briefly as a River Habitat Restoration Officer for the North Wales Rivers Trust, working on improving the rivers in Gwynedd and Anglesey

  • Outside of work, Alistair enjoys kayaking and hiking in the mountains with his partner and dogs - first in the Alps when he lived in Munich for two years, and now in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales

Education

  • Alistair graduated from Pembroke College, University of Oxford, with a BA in Biological Sciences

  • He then gained a PGCE and MA Education & Leadership from The University of Manchester, and was awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA)

  • He has since completed an MSc Wildlife Biology & Conservation (Distinction) from Edinburgh Napier University

    • He was awarded the 2023 MSc Class Medal based for outstanding academic achievement, having received consistently high grades and having the best grade profile at the board for his degree cohort
